Dr. Varsha Ph.D.
Dr. Varsha, a consultant nutritionist, renders specialised nutrition care related to clinical [enteral tube feeding & therapy for diseases], paediatric [especially children with inborn errors of metabolism & other life-threatening aberrations], performance [sports etc.] and renal [be it conservative, dialyzed or transplanted] problems.
She is a Graduate in Nutrition & Dietetics [Madras University], Post-graduate in Foods & Nutrition [MS University of Baroda, Gujarat] and has a Doctoral degree [PhD] from Madras University. She has had Clinical training, among other places, at: JIPMER - Pondicherry, NIPCCD [National Institute of Public Cooperation & Child Development] - Bangalore, HelpAge - Chennai, Leeds University - UK, The Chicago Medical School & Lutheran General Hospital - USA, Toronto Hospital - Canada, University of Malaya -Hospital Malaysia.
Academically, her efforts have pioneered establishment of Department of Clinical Nutrition in a medical university as well as a Post-Graduate Diploma in Clinical Nutrition.
Dr Varsha is associated with several universities and institutes of repute in various capacities such as Academic Council Member, examiner, supervisor, etc. She is an invited faculty to various national & international institutions.
She has presented papers at International academic events, has contributed several chapters in Books and Journals of repute, and authored a book titled “Physicians Guide to for Nutritional Principles & Management in Disease”. She has participated ( contributory) in International congresses/conferences. She is involved in providing a continuous nutrition education to the community through guest lectures and media presentation on television, radio and the print media.
Latest amongst her very firsts, is her participation at Kuala Lumpur, as the only Indian Invited Speaker, at the 3rd Asian Congress of Dietetics, on the theme “Harmonization of Asian Dietetics” between 18-21 August 2002. Her presentation titled “Social Marketing Concept in Nutrition Education”, emerged as an answer to “Why invest in Nutrition?” and “What nutrition investment can do?” With the advent of multinational food companies as fallout of the Globalization efforts, a “Partnership in Action” is what she attempts to envisage. Travelling extensively, globally, Dr.Varsha strives to spread the concepts - “You are what you eat” and “Trinity of Nutritional Challenges in Life – Community nutrition, Clinical nutrition & Commercial nutrition.”
