Pharmacokinetics
Flurbiprofen, when given orally is highly plasma protein bound (about 90- 99%). It gets metabolised in the liver. It has a t1/2 of 4- 6 hrs.About 10% gets excreted in the urine. Flurbiprofen enters the brain, synovial fluid and can cross the placenta.
Indications
Flurbiprofen is mainly used as an ocular anti-inflammatory agent.
Routes of Administration and Dosage
0.03% eyedrops, 1 drop 6 hourly.
Contra Indications
Flurbiprofen is contraindicated in hypersensitivity, active peptic ulcer, moderate to severe hepatic disease,bronchial asthma, ulcerative colitis, angioedema, asthma and in infants .
Precautions
Special precaution has to be taken in patients with history of cardiac decompensation, hypertention, pregnancy and impaired renal function.
Interactions
Flurbiprofen when used with lithium and Methotrexate, increases their toxicity. Flurbiprofen antagonises the effect of diuretics like Frusemide and Thiazides. It can delay the action of Digoxin.
