Pharmacokinetics

It is absorbed after oral administration from the gastro-intestinal tract. When given orally Miconazole is metabolised in the liver. It can also be given intrathecally.Single application on skin acts for a few days .

Indications

Micanazole is used as a topical agent for tinea,pityriasis versicolor, otomycosis, cutaneous and vulvovaginal candidiasis.It is also used for onychomycosis.

Routes of Administration and Dosage

2 % gel, 2 % powder for topical use. Intravenous use is very rare.

Contra Indications

Miconazole is contraindicated in hypersensitivity, pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions

Alcohol abuse or Hepatic disease may increase the chance of adverse effects caused by azole antifungals.It may cause vaginal irritation.

Few intractions have been reported.
